Cultivating the Seas
The story behind the Japanese tuna enjoyed all over the world
With the popularity of Japanese cuisine rising all over the world, the Pacific Bluefin Tuna started to become a very rare commodity as early as the 1960s. That was the moment when Kindai University’s Aquaculture Research Institute stepped forward to meet the challenge of saving Japan’s “Maguro” industry, giving their hearts and souls for 32 years before finally succeeding at this enormously difficult task. This documentary follows the creation of “full-cycle aquaculture,” which may just hold the key to a sustainable future.
